Ohio State Quarterback Jack Miller Reinstated To Football Team

Former Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller is headed to Florida.

Three weeks after putting his name in the NCAA transfer portal, Miller announced he was committed to joining the Gators.

In a graphic shared on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, he wrote, "God has a plan. Jeremiah 29:11.”

A spot atop Florida's depth chart at quarterback opened up last week when Emory Jones entered the portal. Jones had started 11 of 12 games behind center during the regular season.

The Gators are led by a new coach after Louisiana's Billy Napier was hired last month to replace Dan Mullen.

Miller is likely to compete for the starting job in 2022 with Anthony Richardson, a fellow redshirt freshman who was the backup behind Jones.

It would be the second straight offseason Miller goes through a competition.

He previously vied with C.J. Stroud and Kyle McCord over spring practice and preseason training camp to be the Buckeyes' starting quarterback before the job went to Stroud, who developed into one of the top passers in the country and a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Miller started the season as the third-string quarterback before he fell further on the depth chart after he was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired in November and was suspended for two weeks.

After pleading to a lesser charge of reckless operation ahead of a game against Michigan State on Nov. 20, he was reinstated to the team. But he didn't play against the Spartans as Quinn Ewers had moved up to third-string. Miller didn't travel for the following week's game at Michigan.

Over four games, Miller completed seven of 14 passes for 101 yards.

His commitment to Florida is also notable since his family befriended Tim Tebow, the Gators' former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, while he grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Tebow mentored Miller when he entered high school, and they spoke frequently over the phone.

“He helps me with defenses, fronts, coverages, understanding the game,” Miller told The Arizona Republic in 2016. “He tells me about how important it is to be a leader, always come out with a good attitude, always have fun.”

Quinn Ewers, the other former Ohio State quarterback who entered the transfer portal following the end of the regular season, previously announced he would transfer to Texas.
